NCPCR’s focus on madrasas: SC asks whether other religious schools face similar scrutiny | India News

The Supreme Court questioned the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) on why it was focusing primarily on madrasas, claiming that students from these institutions face difficulties pursuing careers in fields like medicine and engineering. The NCPCR argued that madrasas should not replace mainstream education, but rather serve as a supplement. The court inquired if the NCPCR had issued similar directives to institutions of other religions and if they mandated the teaching of subjects like science and mathematics. The Supreme Court also asked if the NCPCR was treating all communities equally in its actions. Additionally, the court halted the NCPCR’s communications instructing states to transfer students from unrecognised madrasas to government schools.
