The Southwest monsoon is finally beginning to withdraw from Rajasthan, a bit later than usual. This year has seen above average rainfall overall, with September being a bit drier than expected. The unexpected heavy rainfall in August was due to multiple weather systems bringing moisture from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal. The monsoon is expected to fully withdraw by mid-October, to be replaced by the north-eastern monsoon in southern states like Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Despite the delayed withdrawal, the overall monsoon season has been quite active.
