തമിഴ്നാട്ടിൽ, പെർക്കുഷൻ ഉപകരണമായ കഞ്ചിറ നിർമ്മിക്കാൻ ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്ന 300 ലധികം മോണിറ്റർ പല്ലികളുടെ തൊലികൾ വന്യജീവി ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥർ വിവിധ ജില്ലകളിൽ നിന്ന് പിടിച്ചെടുത്തു. അടുതുറയിൽ 200 തൊലികൾ പിടിച്ചെടുത്തു, രണ്ട് പേരെ അറസ്റ്റ് ചെയ്തു. ഈ തൊലികൾ സംഗീതോപകരണങ്ങൾ വിൽക്കുന്ന കടകൾക്ക് വിൽക്കുകയും അവിടെ കാഞ്ചിരകൾ നിർമ്മിക്കുകയും കുറഞ്ഞ വിലയ്ക്ക് വിൽക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു. മോണിറ്റർ പല്ലികൾ ഒരു സംരക്ഷിത ഇനമാണ്, അതിന്റെ ചർമ്മം ഉപകരണങ്ങൾക്കായി ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നത് നിരോധിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. ചർമ്മത്തിനും മാംസത്തിനുമായി ഈ പല്ലികളെ വേട്ടയാടുന്നത് കാട്ടിലെ അവയുടെ എണ്ണം കുറയാൻ കാരണമായി. ഈ അനധികൃത വ്യാപാരം തടയുന്നതിനുള്ള ശ്രമങ്ങൾ നടക്കുന്നുണ്ട്. ജനസംഖ്യാ വിവരങ്ങളുടെ അഭാവവും ഔഷധ ആവശ്യങ്ങൾക്കായി അവയുടെ ശരീരഭാഗങ്ങളുടെ ആവശ്യവും അവയുടെ തകർച്ചയ്ക്ക് കാരണമാകുന്നു. എണ്ണമയമുള്ള വേനൽക്കാല ചർമ്മം തടയുന്നതിനും കഠിനമായ വേനൽക്കാലത്ത് മൃദുവായ ചർമ്മം നിലനിർത്തുന്നതിനുമുള്ള നുറുങ്ങുകളും പങ്കിട്ടു.
In Tamil Nadu, wildlife officials seized over 300 monitor lizard skins from different districts, used to make the percussion instrument kanjira. In Aduthurai, 200 skins were seized, and two individuals were arrested. The skins were sold to shops selling musical instruments, where kanjiras were made and sold for a low price. The monitor lizard is a protected species, and using its skin for instruments is prohibited. Poaching of these lizards for their skin and meat has led to a decline in their population in the wild. Efforts are being made to curb this illegal trade. Lack of population data and demand for their body parts for medicinal purposes are contributing factors to their decline. Tips for preventing oily summer skin and maintaining soft skin in harsh summers were also shared.
