The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has approved a Rs 8,498 crore Slum Rehabilitation Scheme for Ramabai Ambedkar Nagar and Kamraj Nagar in Ghatkopar (East). The project, a joint venture between MMRDA and the Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA), aims to benefit over 17,000 slum dwellers by providing free rehabilitation units and essential infrastructure like gardens, healthcare centres, and educational facilities. Additionally, MMRDA will acquire land to extend the Eastern Freeway, creating a 31-kilometre signal-free corridor. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and MMRDA Metropolitan Commissioner Sanjay Mukherjee have expressed their commitment to improving living standards and infrastructure development in Mumbai. The state government has already allocated Rs 500 crore for rental compensation to eligible dwellers as part of the project.
