Meta has given approval for US government agencies and defense contractors to use its AI models, called Llama, to assist in military and national security efforts. While Meta’s AI models are typically not allowed for use in military-related projects, an exception has been made for US defense agencies and their contractors. The company also plans to make Llama available to government agencies and contractors in other countries like the UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. This move comes as Meta aims to establish Llama as a dominant AI foundation globally and prevent US adversaries like China from gaining ground in AI technology. CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s strategy is to have Meta’s technology widely adopted, including by the public sector.
