Mamata Monitors Cyclone Dana Impact in Bengal



Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee decided to stay at the state secretariat Nabanna to monitor the situation as Cyclone Dana approached West Bengal. Over 3.5 lakh people were identified for evacuation from low-lying areas, with 2,43,374 people taking shelter in relief camps. Operations at Kolkata Airport were affected, with 309 flights impacted. A bomb hoax for 11 domestic flights caused panic. Union Minister Shantanu Thakur reviewed measures at the Kolkata and Haldia docks to tackle the cyclone’s impact, including setting up control rooms, suspending operations, and securing vessels. Precautionary steps such as lowering crane booms and limiting container stacking were also implemented.
