Maharashtra polls: NCP announces first list of 38 candidates; Ajit Pawar to contest from Baramati, Chhagan Bhujbal from Yeola | Mumbai News

Sunil Tatkare, the Maharashtra state president of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), announced the first list of 38 candidates for NCP (AP) on Wednesday. Notably, NCP chief and Maharashtra deputy chief minister, Ajit Pawar, will contest from the Baramati seat against his nephew Yugendra Pawar from the Sharad Pawar faction. The NCP has renominated 26 sitting MLAs and also fielded sitting legislators who recently switched over from the Congress. Bharat Gavit, son of late Congress veteran Manikrao Gavit, has been fielded from Navapur. Ajit Pawar had previously fielded his wife Sunetra Pawar in Baramati against Sharad Pawar’s daughter Supriya Sule in the Lok Sabha elections, but Sharad Pawar emerged victorious. Ajit Pawar admitted his mistake in allowing politics to enter his family relationships and expressed regret over the decision to field Sunetra against his sister.
