During the Mauni Amavasya Mahurat at Mahakumbh 2025, a stampede-like situation occurred at the Sangam Nose due to the overwhelming rush of devotees trying to take the holy dip. The lack of an alternate exit and mismanagement led to chaos and confusion among the pilgrims, resulting in casualties. Eyewitnesses shared harrowing tales of the disaster, with some getting separated from their loved ones. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath appealed for devotees to use alternative ghats for bathing and assured proper arrangements for the injured. Sangam Nose is a sacred point for the dip, where extensive expansion and restoration efforts were undertaken to accommodate more devotees. After the incident, all 13 akharas cancelled the holy dip, and security measures were intensified.
