Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi to be next Army chief | India News

Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi has been appointed as the next Chief of the Army Staff, succeeding Gen Manoj Pande. The government followed the seniority principle in this appointment. Lt Gen Dwivedi has vast operational experience along the frontiers with China and Pakistan. He will take charge on June 30 and is currently serving as Vice Chief of the Army Staff. Lt Gen Dwivedi has served in various command positions and has been decorated with several medals. As Northern Army commander, he provided strategic guidance for operations along the borders and counter-terrorism operations in Jammu and Kashmir. He has also been involved in negotiations with China and modernization efforts in the Indian Army.
