A 21-year-old delivery boy named Arjun Poojar from Mangaluru tragically passed away in a road accident earlier this year, but his family received a Rs 4 lakh insurance payout through the Karnataka State Gig Workers Insurance Scheme. Arjun had enrolled in the scheme just 10 days before the accident. He was working for a food-delivery platform and had joined after completing PU. Following his death, his family applied for the insurance benefit, and the cheque was handed over to them by the labour minister in Bengaluru. This case marks the first recorded instance of a gig worker’s family receiving claims under this insurance scheme introduced by the Congress government in Karnataka.
