The Union Cabinet has approved the recommendations of the high-level committee led by former President Ram Nath Kovind on simultaneous elections in India. The concept of simultaneous elections has been discussed since 1983, suggesting a return to the practice of holding polls together. The panel also suggests a single electoral roll, preparation of equipment in advance, and the development of a mechanism for simultaneous elections.
