Karnataka governor Thaawar Chand Gehlot has been given Z+ category security by the Union home ministry, with CRPF now handling his security instead of the state police. This decision was made after a security review by central intelligence agencies, likely due to threats linked to his approval of an investigation into the Muda case involving the chief minister. The upgrade comes after Congress protests and threats against Gehlot, prompting the Centre to extend the enhanced cover. Despite being eligible for Z+ security, Gehlot had not previously opted for it. The 76-year-old governor took office in July 2021 and had previously served as a Union minister.
