Karnataka Eliminates Grace Marks for Class 10 Exams to Enhance Education Quality | Bengaluru News

The School Education and Literacy Department in Bengaluru has decided to withdraw grace marks for class 10 exams starting from the 2024-25 academic year. This decision came after facing criticism and being reprimanded by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. The controversy arose after the pass percentage for SSLC exams increased from 54% to 74% due to the awarding of 20% grace marks. The Chief Minister was concerned about the quality of education and competitive mindset among students. The department will now focus on other reforms such as webcasting and CCTV surveillance during exams. Additionally, the government has signed an MoU with J-PAL South Asia to improve the quality of education through technology, and has granted permission to recruit 5,267 teachers in the Kalyana Karnataka region.
