In an effort to promote Kannada pride, Karnataka deputy CM DK Shivakumar has announced that all businesses, educational institutions, and factories in Bengaluru must hoist the Kannada flag on Rajyotsava, the state’s Formation Day on Nov 1. While emphasizing the importance of raising the flag, he warned against using coercion to enforce the rule and stated that legal action could be taken against those who do so. The initiative aims to instill a love for the Kannada language, with official celebrations planned by the government and private institutions encouraged to participate as well. While cultural events are not required, hoisting the Kannada flag is mandatory.
