Junior doctors and government hospital nurses in Kolkata held a protest march demanding justice for the R.G. Kar Hospital rape-murder case. A thousand individuals and over 55 organizations have written an open letter to the Chief Justice of India with nine demands, including identifying and punishing the perpetrators. They also called for changes in the National Task Force composition to include doctors, students, activists, and lawyers for a fair investigation. Concerns were raised about the delayed investigation and protection of the perpetrators. The petitioners emphasized that the incident is not isolated and highlighted the need to address sexual violence and gender discrimination in the workplace. They opposed the Aparajita Bill for stringent punishment, stating that capital punishment does not ensure justice for women. The petitioners also raised concerns about police and political party violence against protesters and emphasized the importance of the Right to Dissent in democracy.
