India and China have begun troop disengagement at two friction points in eastern Ladakh following a key agreement. The Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman stated that the disengagement is being implemented in an orderly manner, with resolutions reached on border issues. Tensions between the two countries escalated after a clash in the Galwan Valley in June 2020. The agreement was finalized after negotiations and endorsed by Prime Minister Modi and President Xi Jinping during the BRICS Summit. The resolution is expected to lead to a peaceful resolution of the issues that arose in 2020.
