DK Shivakumar has been making frequent visits to Channapatna since the seat fell vacant, launching infrastructure projects in the area. Despite Congress facing difficulties in choosing a candidate for the upcoming bypoll, Shivakumar has declared that he himself will be on the ballot and is urging voters to treat him as the candidate. This strategic move is seen as an effort by Shivakumar to establish himself as the party’s most prominent Vokkaliga and possibly become the chief minister in the future. Although Congress has never won the Channapatna seat since 2004, party leaders are confident of victory under Shivakumar’s leadership. Various options for candidates are being considered, including Shivakumar’s brother DK Suresh and former minister CP Yogeshwar.
