IMD upgrades red alert for Chennai and neighboring districts



The India Meteorological Department has upgraded the alert for Chennai and neighboring districts to a red alert due to heavy rainfall expected in the next 24 hours. The IMD had earlier issued a red alert for Oct 16 as well. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin has instructed the deployment of NDRF and Tamil Nadu Disaster Response Force in vulnerable areas. The Greater Chennai Corporation has prepared pumps, tractors, boats, and relief centers for emergencies. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and are ready to handle any developments due to the heavy rain forecast.
