A special court in Bengaluru sentenced Karwar MLA Satish Krishna Sail to seven years in prison and imposed a fine of Rs 15 crore for theft and export of seized iron ore during 2009-10. Sail was arrested by the CBI and spent time in jail before being released on bail, but was re-arrested recently. The court found seven individuals guilty, including Sail and others involved in the illegal transportation of ore without permission. Sail, who cited health issues, was also involved in rescue operations for a missing individual.
