The Kerala High Court has issued an order staying the re-admission of 18 students accused in the suicide of JS Sidharthan, who was a second-year student at the College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences. Sidharthan died by suicide after facing a brutal assault at the college hostel. The court stated that students involved in ragging are worse than those involved in vandalism and directed the college to give the victim’s mother a hearing opportunity during the fresh inquiry. This decision comes after a single bench of the High Court had previously allowed the accused students to seek re-admission at the Mannuthy campus after a fresh disciplinary inquiry.
