Former Congress MP DK Suresh, brother of Karnataka’s deputy CM DK Shivakumar, admitted that the party’s overconfidence led to their loss in the Haryana assembly elections. He acknowledged that the party had assumed they would win, but the results proved otherwise. The BJP secured 48 seats, while Congress won 37. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge called the outcome ‘unexpected’ and stated that the party would issue a detailed response after consulting with ground workers. Despite the setback, he thanked the people of Haryana for voting for the Congress party and reassured the hardworking workers not to feel disappointed.
