Gujarat’s Bird Diversity: Devbhumi Dwarka Tops with 456 Species | Ahmedabad News



The state government of Gujarat released a bird diversity report, revealing that Devbhumi Dwarka district has the highest number of bird species while Kutch district has the highest number of birds. The report estimates there are between 18 to 20 lakh birds in Gujarat. Key findings include 456 bird species in Devbhumi Dwarka and over 4.5 lakh birds in Kutch. Nalsarovar is a critical bird hotspot with over 3.6 lakh birds. Other significant districts for bird populations are Jamnagar, Ahmedabad, Banaskantha, and Mehsana. The report highlights the importance of Jamnagar, Kutch, and Ahmedabad for bird conservation and emphasizes the crucial role of wetlands like Nalsarovar and Khijadiya bird sanctuaries in supporting bird populations. The survey, conducted in collaboration with the eBird platform, documented over 300 bird species with the participation of NGOs, universities, and ornithologists.
