A virtual wedding ceremony, known as ‘nikah’, took place in Himachal Pradesh between a groom in Turkiye and a bride in Mandi. The groom’s work commitments in Turkiye and the bride’s ailing grandfather’s wish for an early marriage led to the decision for a virtual ceremony. The families agreed, and the marriage was conducted with the barat from Bilaspur reaching Mandi for the occasion. Through video calling, the couple exchanged vows with a qazi officiating the ceremony. The uncle of the bride expressed gratitude for the technology that made the wedding possible. This virtual wedding follows a similar event last year due to natural disasters preventing physical attendance.
