Green warriors seek more artificial ponds for immersion | Hyderabad News

Officials have been instructed to repair roads before the Ganesh Chaturthi festival begins. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation is reviving 74 artificial ponds at various lakes for immersion, sparking a debate over the need for more such ponds in the city. Environmentalists are concerned that the ponds are insufficient for larger idols made of Plaster of Paris due to their shallow depth. There are calls for ponds with greater depth to accommodate the oversized idols. Critics also point out the lack of official presence at the ponds and lakes during most of the festival, leading to idols being immersed directly in the lakes. Despite these challenges, the GHMC has made progress in reducing water pollution through increased public awareness of artificial ponds.
