In Mumbai, the Customs Air Intelligence Unit uncovered a gold smuggling operation involving five airport employees, including a woman, who were caught with nearly 1.6kg of gold dust worth over Rs 1 crore. This is the fifth incident this year involving airport or airline staff smuggling gold. Acting on a tip, officials intercepted an employee named Salim Anwar and found the gold dust hidden in his socks. Anwar confessed that a transit passenger had given him the gold and he was supposed to hand it over to his supervisor, Bhusan Patil. Patil confirmed this and implicated three other colleagues. The arrested individuals admitted to assisting transit passengers in smuggling contraband for money. Authorities are now interrogating Anwar to identify the passenger who gave him the gold.
