Dragonfly Count Surges Amid Species Decline in Delhi’s Biodiversity Parks | Delhi News

A recent survey conducted in Delhi’s biodiversity parks revealed a decrease in the number of dragonfly and damselfly species, but a significant increase in the overall population of these flying insects. This rise is attributed to the extended monsoon season, creating more favorable breeding conditions and habitats. The survey found that the Kamla Nehru Ridge had the highest number of individuals, with over 3,000 recorded. Dragonflies and damselflies play a crucial role as predators of mosquito larvae, thriving in wetland environments. The prolonged rainfall this year has led to the formation of ephemeral wetlands, providing ample resources for these insects to reproduce and continue their essential ecological roles.
