The construction of housing for non-eligible Dharavi residents on salt pan lands will start alongside the building of rehabilitation units for eligible residents in Dharavi. The Union cabinet approved the transfer of 256 acres of salt pan lands to the state government, excluding 28 acres in Wadala due to existing structures. Eligible residents will get 350 sq feet tenements, while ineligible residents will receive 300 sq feet units. A survey is ongoing to determine the total number of eligible residents for free housing. Construction is expected to begin soon, with opposition from Mulund and Kurla residents to the relocation of Dharavi residents.
