Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar directs BBMP to survey under-construction buildings in Bengaluru

A man used a makeshift raft to cross a flooded area in Bengaluru after heavy rains caused the Doddabommasandra lake to overflow. Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar directed the BBMP to survey under-construction buildings in the city and outskirts to prevent future disasters like the collapse at Babusapalya that resulted in eight deaths. The incident shed light on unauthorized constructions on ‘B’ kharab land not sanctioned by the Town Planning Department. Shivakumar emphasized the government’s commitment to demolishing illegal buildings and instructed the BBMP to work with the BMTF to identify and take action against such constructions. The Assistant Engineer in Mahadevapura zone was suspended for failing to prevent the construction of the illegal building pending further investigation.
