Due to high ammonia content in the Yamuna river, the Delhi Jal Board has announced water shortage in parts of east, northeast, and south Delhi, as well as areas under the New Delhi Municipal Council until November 1. This is due to the closure of the Upper Ganga Canal for maintenance, which has affected water supply to the Bhagirathi and Sonia Vihar Water Treatment Plants. As a result, production at these plants has been reduced by up to 30%. Residents are advised to store water in advance and use it judiciously. Water tankers will be available on demand for those in need.
