A Delhi court recently granted interim bail to an accused in a case related to the 2020 Delhi riots so he could attend his younger sister’s marriage. The accused, Shadab Ahmad, had been in judicial custody since May 2020. Despite previous bail applications being dismissed, the court allowed the interim bail for eight days from October 29 to November 5, 2024. Ahmad emphasized his importance in his family’s wedding ceremonies and his deep roots in society as reasons for not fleeing from justice. He was required to surrender after the bail period.
