The Congress government in Karnataka is preparing to protest against the Centre for unfair tax devolution to the state. However, experts point out that the state government is also to blame for the lack of central funds due to delays in holding local body elections. The recent release of tax devolution funds by the 15th Finance Commission highlighted the disparity in resource distribution, with Karnataka receiving significantly less than states like Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. The delay in holding elections for local bodies has cost the state Rs 2,800 crore in the latest instalment. Despite calls for protests, the state government is now working to conduct the overdue elections to claim the funds.
