The outgoing Indian High Commissioner to Canada, Sanjay Kumar Verma, was shocked when Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau declared him a ‘person of interest’. Verma accused Trudeau of ruining bilateral ties for political gains and stated that Khalistani terrorists have found refuge in Canada due to its lenient legal system. He recalled being informed about the allegations while in Toronto and was asked to waive his diplomatic immunity for interrogation by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Verma also accused Khalistanis in Canada of engaging in illegal activities like human trafficking and gun running, as well as collecting money through gurdwaras for nefarious purposes.
