Due to an increase in engineering seats nationwide, 71% of seats in Karnataka are vacant after ComedK counselling, up 9% from last year. Out of 26,373 total seats, 18,726 remain unfilled. This trend has continued for the past few years, with many seats going unoccupied. The Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka conducts admissions for private engineering colleges in the state. Despite more students enrolling this year, the vacancy rate has risen due to the increase in seat numbers. Some colleges have shifted focus to computer science courses, leaving traditional branches like civil and mechanical engineering with empty seats. The CET mop-up round is currently ongoing for those still seeking admission.
