The Greater Chennai Corporation is working on making MTC bus stops and other public spaces in Chennai safer for women. They are planning to build new bus stops, improve lighting, enhance pedestrian access, and make infrastructure accessible for disabled individuals. This project is based on a six-month study that examined infrastructure at 250 locations and 500 bus stops on major routes frequented by 30 lakh women every month. The outcomes of the study will result in better last-mile infrastructure, improved toilets, and safer public spaces for women who rely on public transport. The aim is to make public spaces and mobility more accessible and safer for women in Chennai.
