Eight of the 13 accused in a drug manufacturing racket linked to Lalit Patil have been granted bail by the Bombay High Court due to non-compliance with legal procedures. The accused were in jail for almost four years since their arrest in Oct 2020. The court highlighted improper handling of the chemical analysis process and lack of adherence to Section 52-A of the NDPS Act. The prosecution’s reliance on sections empowering officers to search and seize without compliance with 52-A was deemed insufficient. The defense argued against the evidence presented and raised questions about the credibility of witnesses and lack of evidence linking the accused.
