The BJP has announced its first list of 99 candidates for the Maharashtra assembly polls, with 71 sitting MLAs included despite some of them losing in this year’s LS polls. The decision to repeat sitting MLAs indicates a lack of confidence in new faces, highlighting the influence of the RSS in the decision-making process. Notably, Chandrashekhar Bawankule and Sudhir Mungantiwar have been given tickets despite previous setbacks. Additionally, there are surprises like the renomination of Chandrakant Patil and Madhuri Misal. In Mumbai, the party has announced 14 candidates, including Vinod Shelar, brother of Ashish Shelar. The Mahayuti bloc, of which BJP is a part, is yet to announce its seat-sharing pact.
