An FIR has been registered against a BJP MLA from Gujarat, Gajendrasinh Parmar, on charges of rape and criminal intimidation. The victim, a Dalit woman, alleged that the incident occurred in July 2020 when the MLA established physical relations with her on the pretext of marriage. The case was registered following directions from the Gujarat high court after the police initially failed to act on the victim’s complaint. Parmar, who represents the Prantij assembly seat, has been booked under Sections 376 and 506 of the IPC, as well as the SC/ST Act.
