Bulldozers will soon be back in action in Bengaluru, as forest minister Eshwar Khandre has ordered the reclaiming of 22.8 acres of forest land in the Kothanur area. The land, worth Rs 700 crore, was allocated to the forest department in 1999-2000 for tree plantations, but was never utilized. Encroachers have built structures on part of the land, causing controversy. The forest department is now working to evict the encroachers and reclaim the land. If not for a few families illegally cultivating the land, it may have been taken over by land sharks. The minister has ordered a thorough investigation and is determined to restore the lost forest land.
