Behali by-poll heats up as Congress, BJP leaders lock horns over promises & allegations



The political climate in Behali is heating up as the Congress and BJP leaders engage in a war of words ahead of the November 13 by-elections. Congress leader Mira Borthakur accused the BJP of coercing voters and exploiting tea garden workers, while BJP leader Ranjit Dutta took shots at Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi. State Cabinet Minister Pijush Hazarika alleged that the Congress candidate paid Rs 2 crore for his election ticket. Tensions escalated further as students protested by burning effigies of the Congress candidate, claiming that tickets are being sold within the party. With both parties vying for public support, the by-poll is shaping up to be a fiercely contested battle.
