Assam proposes 12 new border police stations to curb illegal infiltration from B’desh

The Assam Chief Secretary has called for increased vigilance along the international border with Bangladesh due to a recent surge in illegal infiltration attempts following the ouster of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The proposal includes establishing 12 additional border police stations in districts that share a border with Bangladesh and relocating and ensuring the safety of 10 border villages. Efforts are being made to control the movement of illegal immigrants through coordination between various agencies and strengthening Border Outposts and Patrol Posts. Measures such as fencing the entire land border and electronic surveillance along riverine routes have been implemented. The focus is also on curbing cross-border crime, including cattle smuggling and drug trafficking, with stakeholders urged to collaborate in monitoring suspicious vehicles. The Chief Secretary emphasized the importance of maintaining strict vigilance along the border. Additionally, the police have been directed to keep records of suspected illegal immigrants, including collecting biometrics and relevant identification numbers.
