Arvind Pangariya, Chairman of the 16th Finance Commission, praised Tripura Government’s financial management during a recent visit. He noted that despite being a small state, Tripura has shown efficient financial practices with decreasing debt-service ratio and committed expenditure. A high-level consultation meeting was held with state officials, including Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha and Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy. Tripura proposed a 50 percent vertical share of divisible pool between states and Centre, along with new criteria for fund allocation. Pangariya also highlighted Tripura’s economic progress, with a decreasing agricultural workforce and a shift towards the industrial sector. The recent floods in Tripura were also discussed during the meeting.
