Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced that changes will be made to the charter of Civil Defence and Home Guards to make them more relevant and useful within four months. He emphasized the need for these organizations to adapt to the current requirements of the country. Shah mentioned that technology and societal changes over the past 50 years necessitate a reevaluation of their roles. He also criticized a Supreme Court judgment that linked their income, stating that the essence of service should not be compromised. Shah proposed including traffic management and social awareness programs in the revised charter. He commended the personnel for their efforts during the Covid-19 pandemic.
