Air quality deteriorates to ‘severe’ level, AQI crosses 400 in Anand Vihar; spike in Asthma patients

The air quality in Delhi took a turn for the worse on Friday, with areas like Anand Vihar, Ashok Vihar, and Bawana experiencing ‘severe’ levels of pollution. The Air Quality Index (AQI) has reached alarming levels, surpassing national safety standards due to stagnant winds failing to disperse pollutants. With winter setting in, the situation has deteriorated further, with AQI readings exceeding 400 in several locations. This decline in air quality has resulted in a spike in health issues, with a notable increase in respiratory problems reported at AIIMS. The Delhi government has responded by increasing penalties for stubble burning and implementing measures to address the environmental crisis, including monitoring vehicle emissions and industrial activities.
