In an effort to reduce noise pollution before Diwali, the Pollution Control Board, Assam conducted raids on firecracker vendors in Silchar who were selling items exceeding the legal noise limit. A total of 37 packets containing banned items were seized during the operation. Only 16 types of firecrackers approved by the Central Pollution Control Board are allowed for temporary sale and storage. The raids will continue to ensure compliance during Diwali. Residents are urged to celebrate responsibly with “green crackers” that meet noise regulations. Last year, Silchar saw low levels of air and noise pollution during Diwali, and officials are working to maintain this eco-friendly trend through awareness campaigns.
