The Indian government has removed the $550 per tonne minimum export price on onions to help boost exports and support farmers, especially ahead of Maharashtra’s upcoming assembly elections. This decision has been welcomed by Mahayuti leaders, who believe it will benefit them in the polls. The move is expected to help regain lost export markets to countries like China and Pakistan. NCP leaders have also expressed their support for farmers and the decision to eliminate the MEP. Overall, the decision is seen as a positive step for farmers and the agricultural community in Maharashtra.
