The state government in Thiruvananthapuram has decided to start a vigilance probe against ADGP MR Ajith Kumar on accusations of accumulating wealth that doesn’t match his known sources of income. This decision was made following a recommendation from the state police chief, Sheik Darvesh Saheb, after allegations were made by CPM-backed independent MLA PV Anvar. The delay in taking action on the recommendation had received criticism from various groups, including the LDF ally CPI. Another similar probe will be initiated against former Malappuram SP Sujith Das. The ADGP has been facing accusations of involvement in various illegal activities, including links to gold smuggling and murders. The state police chief’s recommendation was supported by a private complaint filed by Martin Menachery of Kochi, which also called for the removal of the ADGP from his position.
