Police arrested Karnataka cadre IPS officer M Arun Rangarajan for assaulting his live-in partner and setting their house on fire in a bid to kill himself. The couple had been estranged since February when he assaulted her, leading to her hospitalization. Despite being placed under suspension and granted bail, their confrontations continued. When he attempted to assault her again, she called the police, who found him setting the house on fire. Rangarajan was arrested and sent to prison. This incident was part of a tumultuous relationship involving extramarital affairs that ultimately led to his divorce from another IPS officer.
