A recent survey by LocalCircles found that 47% of urban Indian parents believe their children spend an average of 3 hours or more each day on social media, videos/OTT, and online games. The study received over 70,000 responses from parents in urban areas across the country, with many expressing concerns about their children being addicted to these online platforms, leading to aggressive, impatient, and lethargic behavior. The survey also revealed that a majority of parents feel their children are addicted to social media, videos, or online gaming, with some experiencing emotional and mental impacts such as aggression, impatience, and lethargy. Additionally, 66% of parents believe that mandatory parental consent should be required for children under 18 to join online platforms, with many suggesting that Aadhaar authentication should be used for this purpose.
