ഒരു സുപ്രധാന ഡാറ്റാ ലംഘനത്തിൽ, തമിഴ്നാട് പോലീസിന്റെ ഫേഷ്യൽ റെക്കഗ്നിഷൻ സോഫ്റ്റ്വെയർ (എഫ്ആർഎസ്) പോർട്ടൽ ടീം പാസ്വേഡും ഐഡിയും ഉപയോഗിച്ച് വെബ്സൈറ്റിലേക്ക് പ്രവേശിച്ച അക്രമികൾ ഹാക്ക് ചെയ്തു. 60 ലക്ഷത്തിലധികം വ്യക്തികളുടെ രേഖകൾ അടങ്ങിയ പോർട്ടൽ, സംശയിക്കപ്പെടുന്നവരെയും കാണാതായവരെയും മറ്റുള്ളവരെയും മുഖം തിരിച്ചറിയുന്നതിലൂടെ തിരിച്ചറിയാൻ വകുപ്പിലെ 46,000-ത്തിലധികം ആളുകൾ ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നു. എഫ്. ആർ. എസ് പോർട്ടലിൽ നിന്നുള്ള ഡാറ്റ സാമ്പിളുകൾ ഡാർക്ക് വെബിൽ വിൽപ്പനയ്ക്ക് വെച്ചിരുന്നു. സ്റ്റേറ്റ് ക്രൈം റെക്കോർഡ്സ് ബ്യൂറോയിലെയും സെന്റർ ഫോർ ഡെവലപ്മെന്റ് ഓഫ് അഡ്വാൻസ്ഡ് കമ്പ്യൂട്ടിംഗിലെയും ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥർ ലംഘനത്തിന്റെ വ്യാപ്തി അന്വേഷിക്കുകയാണ്. ഒരു സബ് ഇൻസ്പെക്ടറുടെ ഉപയോക്തൃനാമവും പാസ്വേഡും ഉപയോഗിച്ച് വലേരി എന്ന ഹാക്കർ പോർട്ടലിലേക്ക് പ്രവേശിച്ചെങ്കിലും പരിമിതമായ ആക്സസ് മാത്രമേ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നുള്ളൂ. എഫ്. ആർ. എസ് പോർട്ടൽ അതിന്റെ ദുരുപയോഗത്തിന് സാധ്യതയുള്ളതിനാൽ ഡാറ്റാ സ്വകാര്യത പ്രവർത്തകരിൽ നിന്ന് വിമർശനം നേരിട്ടിട്ടുണ്ട്. അപഹരിക്കപ്പെട്ട അഡ്മിൻ അക്കൌണ്ട് നിർജ്ജീവമാക്കുന്നത് ഉൾപ്പെടെയുള്ള നടപടികൾ ലംഘനത്തെ അഭിസംബോധന ചെയ്യുന്നതിനായി സ്വീകരിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്.

In a significant data breach, the Facial Recognition Software (FRS) portal of Tamil Nadu police was hacked by miscreants who accessed the website using a team password and ID. The portal, containing over 60 lakh records of individuals, is used by more than 46,000 people in the department to identify suspects, missing people, and others through facial recognition. Data samples from the FRS portal were put up for sale on the dark web. Officials from the State Crime Records Bureau and Centre for Development of Advanced Computing are investigating the extent of the breach. The hacker, identified as Valerie, accessed the portal using a sub-inspector’s username and password, but only had limited access. The FRS portal has faced criticism from data privacy activists for its potential misuse. Steps have been taken to address the breach, including deactivating the compromised admin account.
