Mercedes-Benz is seeing a growing number of Indian buyers choosing electric vehicles as their first luxury cars, with EV sales doubling to five percent in the first half of 2024. This trend is driven by young buyers looking to stand out with electric models. The managing director of Mercedes-Benz in India mentioned that a small but increasing group of young buyers, such as doctors and lawyers, are opting for EVs for “differentiation”. While India’s EV market is still small, the government aims to increase EV sales to 30 percent by 2030. Mercedes-Benz is investing in local production of EVs to support this transition.
